The short version
The free app collects nothing. Your recordings and transcripts are made and kept on your phone. There is no account, no ads, no analytics and no crash reporting software, and the free app makes no network requests to our servers. The one download, the speech model, comes from Google Play or the App Store.
Pro uses the cloud, and says so. If you subscribe and sign in, we store your audio, transcripts, summaries, reminders, attachments and your email address, so we can back up and sync your notes. Transcripts, never audio, go to Anthropic to write summaries and answer your questions. We never sell your data or use it for ads, and you can export or delete it at any time.
1. Who we are
Voice Notes is a voice recorder app made by ReelMoney, based in India (“we”, “us” or “our”). We are responsible for the personal data described here. This policy covers the Voice Notes app for Android and, when it launches, for iPhone, whose app id is dev.voicenotes.app; Voice Notes Pro; this website at voicenotes.reel.money; and emails to our support address.
The app has two sides. The free app works entirely on your phone. Voice Notes Pro is an optional subscription that uses our servers. This policy describes each one separately. For questions, email hello@reel.money.
2. The free app collects nothing
Without Pro, we do not collect, receive or store any information from Voice Notes.
- Your notes stay on your phone. Recordings, transcripts, titles, your edits, the search index and your settings are saved in the app’s private storage. Notes you delete wait in Recently deleted for 30 days, then are removed.
- Transcription happens on your phone. A speech model turns your recordings into text without sending them anywhere. The app downloads that model once, from Google Play on Android or from Apple on iPhone, not from our servers. Nothing about your notes is sent with the download.
- No network requests of our own. The free app does not connect to our servers. It contains no analytics, advertising or crash reporting software, and it has no account.
- The purchase software stays off. It starts only if you open the Pro screen, or if you have bought Pro before (section 6).
- Sharing is up to you. When you share a note or a link, your phone’s share sheet sends only what you choose, to where you choose. Rating the app opens your store app.
Backups made by your phone. On Android, Voice Notes leaves your recordings out of Android’s automatic backup. On iPhone, the app’s storage is included in iCloud Backup and in backups to your computer when you turn them on, as for every app. Apple handles those backups under Apple’s Privacy Policy. We cannot access backups made by your phone.
Crash statistics from Google and Apple. If you have chosen to share usage and diagnostics with Google, Google Play may show us anonymous crash and performance statistics, such as how often the app crashes on a phone model. On iPhone, if you share analytics with app developers, Apple may show us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. Google and Apple collect these, not the app, and we use them only to fix problems.
3. Permissions
Voice Notes asks for a permission only when you first use the feature that needs it.
- Microphone: to record. Asked the first time you tap record, never at launch. Recording continues with the screen off only while a recording is in progress, and the app shows that it is recording the whole time.
- Notifications: for the recording controls on Android 13 and later, and for reminder alerts you set with Pro.
- Alarms and reminders (Android, Pro): to alert you at the exact time of a reminder. If you refuse, the alert arrives within a short window instead.
- Calendar (Pro): asked only the first time you tap Add to calendar. On iPhone, the app asks only to add events, so it can never read your calendar. If you refuse, the app opens your calendar’s own screen with the event filled in, which needs no permission.
- Camera and photos (Pro): only when you add a photo or video to a note. Choosing from your gallery uses your phone’s own picker, which gives the app only the items you pick.
The app never uses your location, contacts or advertising identifier.
4. What Pro stores, and why
When you subscribe to Pro and sign in, Voice Notes backs up your notes to our servers so you can restore them, use them on more than one phone, and use the AI features. We store:
| What we store | Why |
|---|---|
| Your account: the email address and account identifier Google or Apple gives us when you sign in | To create your account, connect it to your subscription, show which account you are signed in with, and recognize you when you write to us from it. |
| Audio recordings | Backup, restore and sync. |
| Transcripts, titles and your edits | Backup and sync, summaries, search and chat. |
| Summaries and reminders, including the time you mentioned and the date it was resolved to | Backup and sync, so they appear on all your phones. |
| Photos and videos you attach | Backup and sync. |
| Note details, such as when a note was recorded, its length, time zone and detected language | To sort, sync and summarize notes correctly. |
| A search index of your transcripts, made by an AI model that runs on our own server | Smart search and chat. It is not sent to anyone. |
| Your subscription status from RevenueCat, such as your plan and when it renews or ends | To turn Pro features on or off. |
| Sign in sessions for each phone, with its platform and app version | To keep you signed in, and to sign you out everywhere when you ask. |
We use this data only to provide Voice Notes to you. In the store privacy forms, it is declared as collected for app functionality only. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or build profiles from it, and we do not use your notes to train AI models.
Your cloud notes are protected as section 11 describes, but they are not end to end encrypted: our server can read them, because it needs to in order to write summaries, search and answer questions. People at ReelMoney do not read your notes. Access to our systems is limited to the people who run Voice Notes, and is used only to keep the service working, to help when you ask us to, or when the law requires.
We use your email address only for your account. We don’t email you, except to reply when you write to us, and we never send marketing emails. Warnings before your cloud data is deleted appear in the app, and when you delete your account, the app or the delete account page confirms it on the spot.
5. Summaries and chat: what goes to Anthropic
Pro uses Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, PBC, to write summaries and to answer questions about your notes.
- Summaries. When a note finishes transcribing, the app sends its transcript, with the time it was recorded and your time zone, to our server. Our server passes these, with the note’s language, to Anthropic, which returns the summary and any reminders you mentioned.
- Chat with your notes. When you ask a question, the app sends it to our server with up to 6 earlier turns of that chat, which are your last 3 questions and their answers. Our server finds the most relevant parts of your notes and sends your question, those earlier turns and those passages, with their titles and dates, to Anthropic to write the answer. The conversation is kept on your phone until you clear it. Our server does not keep your questions or the answers.
- Smart search runs on our own server, with a model we run ourselves. Nothing is sent to Anthropic for search.
- Audio is never sent to Anthropic or to any other AI provider. Only text is.
Anthropic processes this text as our service provider, only to return the summary or answer. Under Anthropic’s commercial terms, it does not use it to train its models, and it keeps it only for a limited time, for example to detect abuse. See Anthropic’s Privacy Policy.
AI can get things wrong. Check anything important against your transcript. The app always shows a reminder’s date and time before you add it to your calendar or set an alert.
6. Sign in and purchases
Sign in. Pro needs an account, which you create by signing in with Google or Apple. On Android, Sign in with Apple uses Apple’s web sign in. We receive an identifier for your account and your email address. With Apple, you can choose Hide My Email, and we then receive a relay address that forwards to you. We never see your password. When you delete your account, we also revoke Voice Notes’ access to your Sign in with Apple.
Purchases. Google Play or the App Store handles payment, and we never see your card details. RevenueCat, Inc. (“RevenueCat”) manages subscriptions for us. When you open the Pro screen, the app connects to RevenueCat and your store to show current prices; this sends no notes. When you subscribe or restore a purchase, RevenueCat receives:
- a random account id that we create, which is not your name or email address;
- purchase details, such as the product, price, currency, transaction ids and renewal or expiry dates;
- basic device and app information needed by the purchase software, such as the app version, system version, store country and the IP address of the request.
RevenueCat tells our server when your subscription changes, so we can turn Pro on or off. See RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
7. Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run Pro. Each processes data only on our instructions and only to provide its service to us.
| Provider | What it does, and what it receives |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare, Inc. | Stores your audio, photos and videos in Cloudflare R2, and delivers this website and the traffic to our server. It receives the files you back up and ordinary request information. |
| Anthropic, PBC | Writes summaries and chat answers. It receives transcripts with their recording time, time zone and language; your questions with up to 6 earlier turns of that chat; and the passages of your notes needed to answer them (section 5). |
| RevenueCat, Inc. | Manages subscriptions. It receives a random account id, purchase details and basic device information (section 6). |
| Sign in with Google, Google Play billing and the speech model download on Android, under Google’s Privacy Policy. | |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, and on iPhone, App Store billing and the speech model download, under Apple’s Privacy Policy. |
| IOFLOOD | Hosts the server, in the United States, that runs Voice Notes and its database. The database holds everything Pro stores apart from the files in Cloudflare R2. |
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect the safety of people or our service. If ReelMoney or Voice Notes is ever sold or merged, this policy would continue to apply to your data, and we would tell you first.
8. When Pro ends
- Notes on your phone are never touched, including the attachments already there, which stay viewable.
- During the store’s grace period, if a payment fails, Pro keeps working.
- After Pro ends, your cloud copy becomes read only for 90 days. You can still download, export and delete your notes, but you can’t upload, summarize, chat or add attachments.
- We warn you in the app 30 days and 7 days before those 90 days are up. We don’t send these warnings by email.
- After 90 days, we delete your cloud notes: audio, transcripts, summaries, reminders, attachments and the search index. We keep your account, meaning your email address and sign in, so you can subscribe again. You can delete it at any time (section 10).
- If you subscribe again within 90 days, everything resumes. After that, your phone uploads its notes again.
9. How long we keep data
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Notes in the free app | On your phone only, until you delete them or the app. |
| Notes in the cloud | While you have Pro, and for 90 days after it ends (section 8). |
| A note you delete | 30 days in Recently deleted, then removed from your phones and our servers. Its files are erased from storage within 7 days after that, which protects you from mistakes. |
| Your account | Until you delete it. If you signed in but never had Pro, we delete your account after 30 days with no activity. |
| A cloud export | The download link works for 24 hours, and the file is deleted after 7 days. |
| Server logs, such as IP addresses, request times and errors | A short period. Logs never contain the content of your notes. |
| Database backups: full copies of the database, and logs of the changes made since each copy | Encrypted, and erased within 45 days. Anything deleted disappears from backups within that time. |
| Billing records | Up to 13 months, to handle disputes, or longer where tax law requires. |
| Support emails | As long as needed to help you and meet legal obligations. |
10. Export and deletion
Export. In Voice Notes, open Settings, then Data, then Export all notes. You get a zip file with every recording as M4A audio and every transcript as text. This works on the free app too. With Pro, you can also export your cloud copy, including in the 90 days after Pro ends.
Delete a note. Deleted notes go to Recently deleted for 30 days, where you can restore them or delete them for good.
Delete your account. In the app, open Settings, then Account, then Delete account. You can also use voicenotes.reel.money/delete-account, or email us from the address on your account. We then:
- sign you out on every phone straight away, and revoke access to your Sign in with Apple;
- within 24 hours, delete your account, your cloud notes, attachments and search index, and your customer record at RevenueCat;
- erase the copies in our encrypted backups within 45 days.
The app or the delete account page confirms your request as soon as you make it, and we don’t send a confirmation email. If you asked by email, we reply to confirm.
Notes on your phone stay until you delete them or the app. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription: cancel it in Google Play or the App Store, as our terms describe. The stores keep their own purchase records, and we keep billing records where the law requires.
11. Security
Everything Pro sends travels over HTTPS, encrypted with TLS. Files in Cloudflare R2 and our database backups are encrypted at rest. Sign in tokens are stored hashed. We never write the content of your notes, your questions or sign in tokens to our logs. Access to our systems is limited to the people who run Voice Notes. No system is perfectly secure, and if a breach affects your data, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
12. Children
Voice Notes is not directed to children under 13, and a Pro account requires you to be at least 13, or older where your country requires it. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
13. Legal bases
Where the GDPR or UK data protection law applies, we rely on:
- Contract, to provide Pro: storing, syncing and backing up your notes, summaries, search and chat, and managing your subscription.
- Legitimate interests, to keep the service secure, prevent abuse with daily limits, and fix problems. You can object by emailing us.
- Legal obligation, to keep billing records that tax and accounting laws require.
- Consent, for the phone permissions you grant. You can withdraw it at any time in your phone’s settings.
14. Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR in Europe, UK data protection law, India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act and US state privacy laws, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to receive it in a portable format, to object to or restrict its use, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority.
You can use most of these rights yourself in the app, by exporting your notes or deleting your account. For anything else, email hello@reel.money from the address on your account, with the subject “Voice Notes privacy request”. We reply within 30 days. This address is also our contact for grievances under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.
15. Where data is processed
ReelMoney is based in India. Our database server is in the United States. Cloudflare stores files in its R2 data centers, which are not limited to one region, and our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses for these transfers.
16. This website and support emails
This website is delivered and protected by Cloudflare, which may process ordinary request information, such as your IP address, browser and the page you asked for, to deliver pages and stop abuse. The website has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies, and it loads nothing from other sites, except on the delete account page, as described below. If you switch to the dark theme, that choice is saved in your browser only.
The delete account page loads Google’s sign in script from accounts.google.com, and Continue with Apple takes you to Apple’s sign in page, only so you can prove the account is yours. Google and Apple handle that sign in under their own privacy policies. The page then holds a deletion only token, valid for 10 minutes, for that step only.
If you email support, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach, and use them to help you. Please don’t send passwords or card details.
17. Changes and contact
If our practices change, we will update this page and its effective date. We will explain material changes in the app before they take effect, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
For questions or privacy requests, email hello@reel.money. See also our terms of service and support page.
